SAMURAI TOURNAMENT

We are hosting an *in-house* tournament for the Heiho Dojo kids only.

Gi Brazilian Jiujitsu (Ages 3-8)

Gi Brazilian Jiujitsu & No-Gi (Kids in the 9-13 kids class only)

 

This tournament is Round Robin

 

  • Date: June 22, 2024

  • Location: Heiho Dojo 10015 100th Ave

  • Event Start: 10 am

 

*ALL COMPETITORS MUST BE AT THE SAFETY MEETING OR THEY WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

REGISTRATION

Registration is open now and will close on June 20th at midnight.

Divisions:

 

The divisions will be decided based on the competitor's weight/rank/age. You will fill this out on the registration form. 

 

*Make sure to weigh your child with their full uniform (Gi & Belt) when they register for Gi Brazilian Jiujitsu.  If your childs' weight is out significantly from the registration form at weigh in, they may be disqualified.  Please don't guess your child's weight.

REQUIREMENTS

Uniform Requirements (Gi BJJ):

 

  • All Competitors must have a full Gi and Belt (It’s smart to bring 2 uniforms just in case)

  • Mouth Guard

Uniform Requirements (No-Gi BJJ):

  • Long Sleeve Rash-guards

  • Shorts* or Leggings/spats OR both.

  • Mouth Guard

 

​*(Shorts must reach mid thigh, no pockets, zippers, clasps etc.)

 **ALL Athletes with long hair should have it tied back with a hair tie

If your child does not have the proper equipment they will not be allowed to compete.

HOW TO WIN

Placement Decisions (Brazilian Jiujitsu Gi & No-Gi):

 

Ages 4 and under:

No submissions are allowed. The winner is decided by points.

  • Time On Top | 3 Points

  • Loss | 0 Points

 

Ages 5+

Competitor Wins by submission (see below) or points:

  • Mount/Back Mount | 4 Points

  • Guard Pass | 3 Points

  • Takedown/Sweep/KOB | 2 Points

  • Loss | 0 Points

 **Points do not carry over from one match to another** 

Submission or Points WIn | 5 points

Loss | 0 Points

 

How to Win:

If a legal submission occurs then the competitor that completed the submission is the winner.  

If there is no submission then that competitor with the most points is the winner.  In the case of a tie in points, the winner will be determined by the Ref.  

The Ref will take into account takedown attempts, or overall which competitor was more dominant in the match.  

PENALTIES

Point deduction:
Referee's have the right to award penalties through their discretion. After being given a verbal warning if the athlete continues to do the offence the Ref will give them a penalty. If enough penalties are amassed the athlete may be disqualified.
 
Examples of Penalties:
  • Stalling (Not engaging or actively trying to advance position or get submission)
  • Illegal Grips Inserting fingers inside the sleeve of the trouser pants to control opponent.
  • Intentionally trying to leave the area while trying to escape from a move

Safety Meeting Information

All divisions are Round Robin.  That means that everyone in a division will fight everyone else in the division.

Round Times:
Tots: 90 seconds
Ages 5-9: 2 minutes
Ages 9-13: 4 minutes

  • Bad Attitude (If attitude is excessive it may lead to disqualification)

  • Disrespect to opponent/Referee/Judges
Competitors Remember:
  • Be careful with the rear naked choke. The chin should be at your elbow, not on the forearm.
  • Don't forget to slap/bump at the beginning of the match
  • Remember to lock in a submission and slowly apply.  
  • At the end of the match don't just leave.  Wait for the Ref to declare the match winner. 
  • Shake your opponents' hand after the match, win or lose. 
  • Saying ow, or making sounds of pain is a verbal tap and the match will be over. 
  • If you appear to be angry during the match or are acting like you are angry the Ref may stop the match out of concern for safety of the competitors.  
  • Don't argue with the Ref or Judges.
  • HAVE FUN!  We are here to help you and give you a fun experience.  We are incredibly proud of every one of you that compete this weekend.
