Welcome to the Jiu-Jitsu program at Heiho Dojo! Our classes are designed to teach students the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, focusing on self-defense, discipline, and physical fitness.

What is Jiu-Jitsu?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and combat sport that emphasizes ground fighting and submission holds. It promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger opponent using leverage and proper technique.

Rules and Etiquette

Ranking Requirements

  • White Belt: Beginner level, focusing on basic techniques and principles.

  • Blue Belt: Demonstrate proficiency in basic techniques and understanding of more advanced concepts.

  • Purple Belt: Show advanced technical skills and the ability to teach others.

  • Brown Belt: Master advanced techniques and strategies, preparation for black belt.

  • Black Belt: Demonstrate mastery of BJJ and contribute to the community.

IBJJF Graduation System

The International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) sets the standards for belt rankings and graduation. Students progress through the belts based on time, technical proficiency, and competition performance.
